THE GREATEST NEED

The greatest need is beyond our reach without your help. The greatest need in Virginia as in many states is for more group homes

What is a group home?

A group home is a small home in a regular community with a staff and about four or five residents with intellectual disabilities. It is as close to a normal home life as one can ever expect to find. All necessary help and assistance is provided and the residents can live in dignity and with a sense of community.

Why are there not enough group homes?

Well, there is a need in Virginia for several hundred folks that would benefit from them but the cost of doing that is about $100,000,000. That is a tremendous amount of money. KOVAR leveraging its funds with others can help open a few more each year but the need is not going to be met for many more years and many people cannot wait.

What do you mean they cannot wait?

For example, many parents care for their children diagnosed with intellectual disabilities in their homes all their lives. They do not complain, they love their children and provide everything they can to ensure they live happy and productive lives. But the sad fact is the parents will not live forever and many are deeply concerned what will happen to their children when they are no longer able to provide for them. Elderly parents living in fear because they do not know what is going to happen to their children when they are gone is a terrible thing. Folks living a life of loving care deserve to know their children will be cared for in an environment as close to what they experience at home as possible. There are more than a 100 parents on waiting lists hoping that their children can be placed in a group home.

What can I do?

KOVAR by working with other charities has been able to help but the need far exceeds the funds. You can really make a major impact and make it possible to open more group homes faster by considering donating your used car to KOVAR or making a donation on line. If just 100 people a year donated their used car we could assist in opening several more group homes each year. I ask you to seriously consider helping out God’s Special Children and their parents by donating your used car or donation on line. Some times the caregivers are brothers and sisters and the concern is the same. Giving peace of mind to honest hard working and loving parents and caregivers is a tremendous gift.
